A gentle yet powerful approach that supports your natural orientation towards healing and growth.
"Sometimes the hands can express what the mind cannot fathom and words cannot say."
Sandplay therapy is a gentle, yet powerful approach that is suitable for both adults and children and supports the individual's natural orientation towards healing and growth.
Sandplay is helpful for working through inner conflicts that may manifest as anxiety and depression. It provides a safe and protected space, where the individual's inner world can be safely explored and processed, leading to integration and emotional healing.
I use the Expressive Therapies approach to Sandplay, which is based on the psychology of C.G. Jung and developed by Dora Kalff, a Jungian therapist who developed sandplay therapy in Switzerland in the 1950s and 1960s.
The tactile and creative nature of sandplay therapy facilitates access to the unconscious mind, allowing the deeper aspects of the psyche to be explored and expressed in a safe and natural way.
Symbols are selected — figurines, ornaments or objects from nature — and arranged in a tray of sand. The process of selecting the symbols, arranging them in the tray, exploring their meaning and sometimes re-arranging them, can often bring insight and self-awareness that promotes healing and growth.
Each session provides a safe and protected space where you can explore your inner world through the creative and tactile process of sandplay. The process is gentle and unhurried, allowing your natural healing wisdom to guide the journey.
No artistic skill is required -- the process works through the symbolic and creative nature of arranging objects in the sand, allowing deeper aspects of your experience to emerge naturally.
